Indigenous Drag Story Hour is a special program founded by drag artists Lady Shug (Diné) and Landa Lakes (Chickasaw), created to celebrate Native voices, traditions, and creativity through storytelling.
Like all Drag Story Hour events, it combines literacy, performance, and joy—but with a focus on uplifting Indigenous authors, illustrators, and cultural perspectives. Indigenous drag storytellers bring books to life, weaving together humor, imagination, and cultural pride to create affirming spaces for kids and families.
The program also honors Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ experiences, offering representation that is often missing in mainstream children’s programming. At its heart, Indigenous Drag Story Hour is both fun and meaningful: an act of storytelling, cultural celebration, and visibility.
